On Roanoke Island, the Dare County Animal Shelter offers an adoption program for stray and abandoned animals and serves as a pound for animals picked up off the streets. Dog catchers in all areas of Dare County except for Kill Devil Hills bring confiscated pets here. The Kill Devil Hills animal control officer can be reached at 480-4020.
The nonprofit Outer Banks Spay-Neuter Fund offers financial assistance for people who can't afford to keep their pets from reproducing and operates a cat shelter for stray, abandoned or injured cats. Call 441-7918 for more information. |
